After The Hobbit trilogy, New Zealand’s film crew will
have another monstrous trilogy on their hands. James Cameron has announced that
he plans to shoot Avatar 2, Avatar 3, and Avatar 3 in New Zealand. According to
the reports, the three sequels will be shot at the same time, and “perhaps over
a period of about nine months.” For New Zealand’s Economic Development Minister
Steven Joyce this is great news, has he explained, “The Avatar sequels will
provide hundreds of jobs and thousands of hours of work directly in the screen
sector as well as jobs right across the economy.
Obviously this is also great for 2th Century Fox and
Lightstorm Entertainment as well. According to The Wrap, “New Zealand’s
government has agreed to a 25 percent financial rebate, up from the current 15
percent,” and according to Cameron, the budget for all three movies should come
just under the $1 billion mark, which is surprising if you consider that the
first film was reported to have cost $ 500 million.
Avatar 2 will open on December of 2016, Avatar 3 on
December, 2017 and Avatar 4 on December of 2018.
