After
the upcoming Thor: The Dark World (2013),
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014),
Ant-Man (2015) and The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), what comes next?
Among
the other possible titles (Doctor Strange and Iron Fist) there is one that has
been on everyone’s mind since the whole superhero genre toke off, Wakanda’s
king and Avenger, Black Panther, which some are hoping will be referenced in
the 2015 Age of Ultron.
Bringing
the character to the big screen has been talked about for quite some time, and
he was even developed in early stages but was subsequently dropped, but with
the Marvel Cinematic Universe growing larger and larger, new heroes need to be
found if things are to be kept fresh and appealing.
During
the press junket for Thor: The Dark World, Marvel’s Studio President of
Production Kevin Feige was asked by BlackTree TV about Black Panther and if it
will actually happen or not.
“In
terms of Black Panther, it’s absolutely in development, and when you have
something as rich as Wakanda and [Black Panther's] backstory – and clearly,
Vibranium’s been introduced in the universe already – I don’t know when it will
be exactly but certainly we have plans to bring him to life someday.”
For those
that don’t know, Vibranium is a powerful metal that is capable of repel any
kind of energy, from simple blasts to Thor’s hammer, and is from this material
that Captain America’s shield is made from.
It’s
almost safe to say that there will be sequels to both Captain America and Thor
for 2016, if Marvel maintains the picture a year deal, which than leaves Black
Panther and other properties out of the picture, but because Feige already said
that they have movies lined up until 2021, there is still room, probably not in
Marvel Phase 3 but other what about other Phases?
“Realistically,
[we've planned] just into the beginnings of [phase] three, in terms of
practicality. In terms of pipe dreams, we’ve talked about [phases] four and
five, but that’s just sort of wishful thinking.”
