While in an interview to MF, the director of the first Saw, The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 1 and 2 said that he is finished with the horror movie genre.
“I spent the last ten years of my life doing
this. It’s time for a change, for goodness sake! Hollywood puts you in a box.
If you do a successful comedy, then you’re known as The Comedy Guy. If you do a
successful car chase movie, then you become that guy. So I’m a student of
cinema, so I just want to make sure I get the chance to make other kinds of
films.”
“I
never did any of the Saw sequels, because I felt that, the story that I wanted
to tell with the Saw film, I’d already told it and I didn’t want to repeat
myself. Whereas, I did Insidious: Chapter 2 because I felt I never finished
that story. In a lot of ways, I see the two films as one big movie. When I made
the first one, it was like “Oh, I ran out of money and I’ll just finish it
here.’ And then that became Insidious 1 and then I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll get
the checks and then finish the rest.’”
Wan
has a point, once the industry or the biz side of showbiz marks you has the
horror guy, you’re done. And what better way to change then directing the
upcoming Fast & Furious 7.
