After
Django Unchained by Tarantino, The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann and the
upcoming The Wolf of Wall Street by Martin Scorcese, Leonardo DiCaprio is set
to star and produce through his Appian Way Company a Warner Bros. project called
Rasputin, written by American Sniper’s writer Jason Hall.
According
to Deadline, the film will focus on lesser known and discussed aspects of
Rasputin’s life, like his 12 year travel across Europe or his twin brother that
early in life.
For
those of you that never heard of Rasputin here is a shot bio:
Name:
Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin.
Other
Names: The Mad Monk / The Black Monk.
Born:
21 of January of 1869 in Pokrovskoye, Siberia, Russian Empire.
Died:
30 of December of 1916 (age 47) in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire.
Religion:
Russian Orthodox.
Occupation:
Monk.
Controversy:
Dealing with the occult, jumping from one religion to the other and becoming involved
in the Russian Empire political game help the legend of Rasputin to grow. But
nothing helped more than the legend of his death. According to popular belief
Rasputin was poisoned with a large amount of cyanide, shot four times, beaten,
drowned and after dead set on fire and even than he managed to sit up. But the
controversy doesn’t end here, throughout the decades there never has been a
definitive and conclusive account of how he died. His sister never believed he
was poisoned because he avoided eating sugary thing, like the cakes with
cyanide that supposedly poisoned him. The doctor that performed the autopsy at
that time said that the official cause of death was drowning but he also said
that Rasputin had indeed poison in his system. Others say that because he
practiced mithridatism (practice of injecting oneself with poison to develop
anti-bodies and become immune) he couldn’t have been poisoned. Even recent reports
contest the early findings by saying that he wasn’t either poisoned or drowned.
The reports agreed that he was violently beaten but stated that the third of
the four shoots he received was instantaneously fatal, since the bullet went
through his forehead.
But
even with all the experts and different conclusions throughout the times no one
can say definitely how he died.
