Maisie Williams & Anya Taylor-Joy To Star In X-Men Spinoff Movie

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy ("Split") are set to star in Josh Boone's ("The Fault in Our Stars") upcoming X-Men spinoff film New Mutants for 20th Century Fox.

Written by Boone and his writing partner Knate Gwaltney, the project is expected to go into production this July.

Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt are producing.

Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, the New Mutants comic series was launched in the early 1980s by Marvel.

The movie will focus on a group of mutant teens that include Magik, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Danielle Moonstar, and Cannonball. Joining them will be an alien named Warlock.

Williams will play Wolfsbane, a Scottish teen struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her ability to turn into a wolf.

Taylor-Joy will play Magik, a Russian girl who has learned how to use sorcery and uses teleportation disks in order to travel. She is the younger sister of the Colossus, an X-Man that has appeared in both the X-Men film franchise and in Deadpool.

Fox is keen to locate the right actors for the remaining lead roles, as such they have cast a wide net to find a Brazilian actor to play Sunspot, a Native American to play Moonstar, and a Southeastern girl to play Kentucky-born Cannonball.

New Mutants opens in theaters on April 13, 2018.
