Visual Effects
supervisor and Second Unit director James Madigan is set to make his
directorial debut with The Rats Of Nimh.
Based on the successful
and award winning book series by Robert C. O'Brien, the live-action/animation hybrid
will focus on a group of rescued lab rats who are recruited into saving a
rodent family.
In 1982, Don Bluth ("The
Land Before Time") wrote and directed an adaptation of story titled The
Secret of NIMH that has since turned into a cult hit. The animated feature film
featured the voices of Shannen Doherty, Dom Deluise, and Wil Wheaton.
Madigan's VFX
background includes such projects as The Brothers Grimm, Iron Man 2, The Da
Vinci Code, and Rome for which he won an Emmy and two Visual Effects Society
Awards. As for his work as a second unit director, Madigan's credits include
RED 2, Insurgent, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Madigan recently wrapped directing
the second unit on Jason Statham's upcoming action movie Meg.
Michael Berg ("Ice
Age" franchise) is penning the script.
Other Robert C. O'Brien
novels that have been adapted into the big screen include the 2015 sci-fi thriller
Z for Zachariah starring Margot Robbie, Chris Pine, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
