It's official, Fox
has given a pilot order to a new X-Men action-drama from Burn Notice creator
Matt Nix.
The yet untitled series
will center on two ordinary parents forced to go on the run from a hostile government
after discovering that their teen children possess mutant abilities. The
family eventually teams with an underground network of mutants to fight for
their right to be.
Casting
had already begun, however now that Marvel Television and 20th Century Fox
Television have given the green light, expect the process to ramp up.
Nix
will executive produce the series along with Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, and
Lauren Shuler Donner for Fox, and Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory for Marvel Television.
At
the TCA winter press tour, Nix told reporters that the series will fit into the
X-Men cinematic universe.
"Without getting into specifics that I’ll get murdered for, I would
say that a fan of the movies — particularly the movies but also the comic books
— would not be disoriented as to where this fits in the mythology. If you look
at the movies that take place, they don’t all line up perfectly. So it’s
not like I’m slavishly fitting myself into a particular slot [but] if you like
that world and the world of the movies, there are definite nods to it, it
definitely exists in the same general universe."
With the yet untitled X-Men series, Fox will now house projects from both
DC Comics, and Marvel. The network currently airs the Batman prequel series
Gotham, and the supernatural drama Lucifer. Besides this two DC shows, Fox is
also developing a Black Lightning drama, and is set to premiere on their sister cable network, FX, a X-Men-themed Marvel drama titled Legion.
