Chris Obi ("American Gods"), Shazad Latif ("Penny Dreadful"), and relative newcomer Mary Chieffo have joined the cast of CBS' upcoming Star Trek television series Discovery as Klingons.
According to EW, Obi will play T'Kuvma, a Klingon leader
seeking to unite the various Klingon houses. Latif will play Kol, a Klingon
Commanding Officer and protégé of T'Kuvma. And Chieffo will play L'Rell, the
Battle Deck Commander of a Klingon ship.

The trio of
actors joins Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer who happens to
be a new alien species in the Star Trek universe; Michelle Yeoh as Captain
Georgious, the Starfleet Captain aboard the Starship Shenzhou; and Anthony Rapp
as Lt. Stamets, and astromycologist, i.e. a fungus expert, who is the Starfleet
Science Officer aboard the Starship Discovery.
Bryan Fuller, who stepped down from his role as
showrunner, co-wrote the first hour of the show with Alex Kurtzman, while Nicholas Meyer, who has deep ties to the franchise having
written Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, and The Undiscovered Country, penned
the second hour.
Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS All Access on May of 2017.
