Multitalented actress
Parker Posey has landed a key and surprising role in the upcoming remake of Irwin
Allen's Lost in Space, currently being developed by Netflix.
Posey will play Dr.
Smith in the redo of the 1965 classic television series. In the original show, Jonathan
Harris played the scheming and malevolent doctor, with Gary Oldman replaying
the part in the 1998 film adaptation.
Set in the far away
future of 1997,
the original series focused on the USA's attempt to colonize deep space. To
that end, they sent a single family (Robinson) on a 5 1/2-year long journey to
a far away planet, but little did they knew that an enemy, Dr. Zachary Smith,
had sneaked into the spaceship, i.e. Jupiter 2 and sabotaged it. Dr. Smith's interference
caused the ship to veer off course and become lost in space, with him and the
family aboard.
Also starring in the series are Toby Stephens ("Black
Sails") as John Robinson, Molly Parker ("House of Cards ") as Maureen
Robinson, Taylor Russell ("Falling Skies") as Judy Robinson, and Max
Jenkins ("Sense8") as Will Robinson.
Dracula Untold screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless will write the
10-episode series, as well as act as executive producers along with Zack
Estrin, who will serve as showrunner, Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni, and Marc
Helwig and Neil Marshall, who will direct several episodes of the series as its
producing director.
