It looks like 20th
Century Fox has set their eyes on John Wick co-director David Leitch to replace
Tim Miller at the helm of Deadpool 2.
Miller departed the
project last week after butting heads with star Ryan Reynolds over a number of
creative decisions including what tone the sequel should have and some of the
casting, namely that of Cable.
According to
Mashable, Reynolds' agency (WME), has been pushing for Fox and the actor, who gained
significant more creative control after the first film, to sign one of their
directors, and Leitch is at the top of that list.
The director, Fox,
and Reynolds have some history together. Leitch was the action coordinator on
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which introduced Reynolds as Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool.
Leitch got his start
as a stunt performer and coordinator on such films like Christopher Guest's
Almost Heroes or David Fincher's Fight Club before moving to second unit
director on movies like The Wolverine and Anchorman 2, and finally director
with John Wick.
Deadpool 2 opens in
theaters on January 2, 2018.
