Napoleon Dynamite helmer
Jared Hess, who will finally see his long-delayed comedy Masterminds open later
this month, has signed on to direct Shanghai Dawn for MGM.
Owen Wilson and
future Honorary Oscar recipient Jackie Chan have entered negotiations to
reprise their roles as Chon Wang and Roy O'Bannon, respectively.
The franchise began
with the release of Shanghai Noon in 2000, which proved to be a success for the
studio, leading to a sequel in 2003 titled Shanghai Knights.
In Shanghai Noon the
Wild West meets the Far East when Imperial Guard Chon Wang (Chan) travels to
America and is forced to team with a criminal (Wilson) he doesn't fully trust
to rescue a kidnapped Chinese princess.
In the sequel
Shanghai Knights, Wang and Roy O'Bannon (Wilson) travel to Victorian London
along with Wang's sister (Fann Wong) to bring their father killers to justice
and save China and Great Britain from undeserving would-be rulers.
Noon and Knights
screenwriters Miles Millar and Alfred Gough are executive producing the third
installment for which they penned the story for.
