With Star Trek Beyond
expected to please even the most diehard of Trek fans, which have (for the most part)
been mostly critical of the new film series, Paramount Pictures, Bad Robot, and
Skydance Media have today announced the official existence of plan for a fourth movie in
the new franchise, as well as the return of Chris Hemsworth, who will reprise
his role as George Kirk from J.J. Abrams' 2009 flick.
"In the next
installment of the epic space adventure, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross
paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted
him since the day he was born: his father," reads the official logline for
Star Trek 4.
Despite writing Beyond
for the studio, Simon Pegg and Doug Jung are being replaced by screenwriters J.D.
Payne and Patrick McKay, whom actually worked on the script for Beyond when
Roberto Orci was attached to direct.
Chris Pine and
company are expected to reprise their roles, minus Anton Yelchin who sadly passed
away late last month in a tragic vehicular accident.
At this point it is
unclear if Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin will return since Paramount as
yet to announce who will direct the fourth Trek movie.
J.J. Abrams and
Lindsey Weber will produce for Bad Robot.
