Up-and-coming actor Keith Stanfield, who played Snoop
Dog in Straight Outta Compton, will star opposite Nat Wolff in director Adam
Wingard's upcoming adaptation of Takeshi Obata's Death Note for Netflix.
Death Note is a horror manga that centers on a
student named Light (Wolff), who
discovers a supernatural notebook that gives him the ability to kill anyone he
chooses simply by writing that person's name on it. When Light decides to take
upon himself to eradicate the World from evil, a reclusive police officer known
only as L appears and a game of cat-and-mouse begins.
Stanfield credits also include roles in Dope, and Short
Term 12.
Roy Lee, Dan Li, Jason Hoffs, and
Masi Oka are producing the project, which will go into production this June.
In 2006, Obata's much beloved source material was adapted into a
two-part live-action film series in Japan.
