Warner Bros. has
picked Dope writer and director Rick Famuyiwa to bring The Flash to the big
screen with Ezra Miller starring as the scarlet speedster.
The up-and-coming
director is replacing Seth Grahame-Smith who was going to make his directorial
debut but exited the project over creative differences. Smith wrote the screenplay
from a treatment penned by The Lego Movie directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
According to
Deadline, Warner Bros was looking for the right person to helm The Flash, and Famuyiwa's
vision seemed to be compatible not only with the script, but also with a
younger demographic.
Having only directed
small indie films such as The Wood, Brown Sugar, and Our Family Wedding, The
Flash will be a major step-up for the director in terms of size and budget.
Famuyiwa recently
directed the critically acclaimed Confirmation, a docudrama based on real life
events starring Kerry Washington, Wendell Pierce, and Greg Kinnear for HBO.
