Bill
Skarsgård ("Hemlock Grove") has been cast as the nightmarish
Pennywise in the newest adaptation of Stephen King's It.
The young
Skarsgård joins Jaeden Lieberher ("St. Vincent"), Wyatt Oleff
("Guardians of the Galaxy"), Finn Wolfhard ("The 100"),
Chosen Jacobs ("Hawaii Five-0"), Jack Dylan Grazer ("Comedy
Bang! Bang!"), and Jeremy Ray Taylor ("42").
Mama's helmer
Andy Muschietti is directing the split adaptation from a script written by
Chase Palmer ("Neo-Noir") and Gary Dauberman ("Annabelle").
The first
film will follow the Losers Club, a group of teenagers who defeat the
terrifying clown, while the second film will be set years later and focus on
the creature's return and the now grown-up teens who have to team-up once again
to fight the killer clown even though they have no recollection of their first
encounter.
Cary Fukunaga
was originally set to direct the two-part adaptation with Will Poulter
("The Revenant") set to star as It, but left over creative
differences, which pushed the project by a year.
The son of
Stellan Skarsgård ("Marvel's The Avengers," "Thor"), and brother of
Alexander ("True Blood,") and Gustaf Skarsgård ("Vikings"),
Bill will have to fill the mighty big shoes left by Tim Curry in the '90s
Emmy-winning miniseries.
Apart from
Hemlock Grove, Bill also appeared in Lionsgate's Divergent franchise, Joe
Wright's Anna Karenina, and Alison Eastwood's Battlecreek.
