Supergirl joins her
DC extended family on The CW.
The news comes as
rumors of an impending cancelation began to swirl a few days ago, but today
Superman's cousin flew to other shores, which she will be sharing with Arrow,
The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and iZombie.
Despite ranking as CBS'
number one new drama in the 2015-16 season and fourth best new series in the highly
coveted 18-49 demographic, Supergirl was also the most expensive new show for
the network (reportedly $3 million per episode). As such Warner Bros.
Television looked for ways to reduce costs including moving production from Los
Angeles to the friendlier Vancouver. However, and despite reduced licensing
fees, CBS decided that Supergirl's ratings did not justify a sophomore season.
But that's in the
past and for her part producer Ali Adler says that the second season has
already been planned.
"Season
two is going to be more reflective of their past and how they're going to
change their future as a result of it in a really emotional way," she
said. "We definitely want to continue making more of this show."
It's
not yet clear in what time slot The CW will place Supergirl.
