Academy Award winning
actor Eddie Redmayne has joined Early Man, director Nick Park's return to feature
film after winning his fourth Oscar for Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the
Were-Rabbit in 2005.
Redmayne will voice Dug,
the central character in Park's prehistoric football (soccer) film.
"Not only is
Eddie a joy to work with, his versatility and boundless energy have really
helped to bring my new character to life," said Park. "He embodies
the cheeky charm, fun and plucky wit of Dug, and I’m sure he’ll get along
brilliantly with Dug’s sidekick Hognob."
Set at the dawn of
time, when dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, Early Man
tells the story of how one plucky caveman called Dug and his sidekick Hognob, set
off to unite his tribe against the mighty Bronze Age in a battle to beat them
at their own game and save the day.
Early Man continues the production partnership with Aardman and StudioCanal following the success of Shaun the
Sheep Movie directed by Mark Burton and Richard Starzak. StudioCanal is
co-financing and will distribute in its own territories, the UK, France, Germany,
Australia and New Zealand, selling worldwide. The BFI (British Film Institute)
is also a partner on Early Man.
Early
Man opens in theaters on January 26, 2018 in the UK, January 31 in France, and
on March 29 in Germany, New Zealand, and Australia. No US date has been
announced yet.
