Swiss actress Carla Juri has
signed on to Denis Villeneuve's sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 masterpiece Blade
Runner alongside Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas,
Sylvia Hoeks and Dave Bautista, Alcon co-founders and co-CEO's Broderick Johnson
and Andrew Kosove announced today.
The sequel is set several decades after the 1982
original, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. The
film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial
story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do
Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Story details are not being
revealed.
Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble of Thunderbird Films will
serve as executive producers alongside Ridley Scott and Bill Carraro.
Born in Switzerland, Juri grew up bilingual and
studied acting in Los Angeles and London. She made her professional debut in director
Cihan Inan's 180ยบ for which she won the Swiss Film Prize
for Best Supporting Actress. She received American industry attention following
the 2014 Sundance Film Festival premiere of the critically acclaimed German
film Wetlands from
director David Wnendt, and returned to Sundance in 2016 with the well-received
comedic drama Morris From America, from
director Chad Hartigan and co-starring Craig Robinson (This is the End),
premiering this fall via A24.
Blade Runner 2 will begin filming this July for an
October 6, 2017 release.
