Brave co-director
Brenda Chapman is set to make her live-action debut with Come Away, an
intriguing proposition that merges the two stories of Alice in Wonderland and
Peter Pan together for a unique take on both in the form of a prequel written by
Marissa Kate Goodhill.
In Come Away, Alice
and Peter are brother and sister who have to deal with their parents' anguish
following the death of their older brother in an accident. The two ultimately escape
to the magical worlds of Wonderland for Alice, and Neverland for Peter.
Former Paramount production
president Michelle Manning and producers Leesa Kahn and Andrea Keir are
producing the project. "Brenda is a true
visionary and her previous experience in perfectly creating imaginary
worlds with such precise detail is exactly what is needed to bring to life
Marissa’s enchanting script, which explores the universal theme of the
importance of family," they said.
The
Academy Award winning director also helmed The Prince of Egypt, and has story
credits on Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Chapman became the first ever woman to win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature
Film.
Lewis
Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan are both in the
public domain. Carroll's novel was first published in 1865, while Barrie's
novel titled The White Bird first appeared in 1902.
