It seems that
the injuries Dylan O'Brien sustained last month while on the set of Maze
Runner: The Death Cure are significantly worse than initially reported.
Last month
while filming an action sequence on the Maze Runner sequel, the actor was
pulled off a vehicle and then hit by another, resulting in serious injuries,
including lacerations, a concussion, and a facial fracture. At the time 20th
Century Fox announced they would be halting production while O'Brien
recuperated at a hospital, and set May 9th as a possible date to resume
filming.
Now, according
to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has scrapped May 9 from their plans, and has
postponed the production for the foreseeable future, with sources saying that
it will only resume once the actor is fully recovered and the studio is able
to reassemble the cast and crew.
"His injuries
are very serious, and he needs more time to recover," said O’Brien’s
publicist, Jennifer Allen.
In Maze
Runner: The Death Cure, Wicked has taken everything from Thomas, his
life, his memories, and now his only friends the Gladers. But it’s finally
over. The trials are complete, after one final test, curing the deadly disease
known as the flare.
Directed
by Wes Ball, who is also directed Death Cure, the previous two installments in
the franchise, The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, have a
combined box office gross of just over $660 million worldwide.
It's
unlikely that Maze Runner: The Death Cure will open in theaters on
February 17, 2017 as initially planned, but we will have to wait and see how long
it will take O'Brien to make a full recovery.
We
wish the actor a full and speedy recovery.
