John
Krasinski has signed on to play the titular role in the upcoming Jack Ryan
series from Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse,
Fringe writer Graham
Roland, and Michael Bay’s Platinum
Dunes. While there is no official green light yet, the series landed on
Amazon with a series commitment.
Not directly based in any
of Tom Clancy's books but pulling certain elements from them, this new version
of the iconic character sees him in his prime as a CIA analyst and occasional operative.
The Office alum joins a long list of
actors that have played the character, starting with Alec Baldwin in The Hunt
for Red October, followed by Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and
Present Danger, Ben Affleck with The Sum of All Fears, and most recently Chris
Pine in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
Krasinski made his action debut earlier this year in Michael Bay's 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
