2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations

The nominations for the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards have been announced, and there are a couple of surprises, which I think won't become a trend in upcoming awards but who truly knows.

The Hateful Eight, and Joy didn't land a single nomination, but that's probably due to SAG's voting deadline, which is why I'm surprised that Matt Damon (The Martian) was ironically left behind, while Johnny Depp whose only achievement in Black Mass was to somehow tone down his usual shtick, got one.

But awards are always subjective, so going on a rant about who should have been nominated is ultimately pointless. I mean who's to say that Bryan Cranston doesn't deserve a nomination for his irritating accent in Trumbo, or that Jason Mitchell should have got one for his great performance as Eazy-E in Straight Outta Compton?

In the Best Actress department Helen Mirren and Sarah Silverman's nominations surprised many including myself, who was hoping to see Olivia Wilde be recognized for her stellar work on Meadlowand.
