The Hobbit star Luke Evans has
stepped in to replace Jared Leto in Tate Taylor's adaptation of Paula Hawkins'
bestselling novel The Girl on the Train, where he will play the on-screen
husband to Haley Bennett's character.
According to The Hollywood
Reporter, scheduling conflicts prevented the actor from signing the deal and
joining the production, which has already began in New York City.
Leto is not the first actor to
have dropped out from the upcoming film. Chris Evans was also close to sign but
like Leto he too faced difficulties scheduling in the thriller, and was
replaced by The Leftovers star, Justin Theroux.
Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson,
Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, and Lisa Kudrow form the rest of the cast.
In The Girl On The Train,
Blunt stars as Rachel, a woman that takes the same commuter train every morning, and every
day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes,
and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple
breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them.
“Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not
unlike the life she recently lost.
And then she sees
something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s
enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what
she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens
next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?
The Girl On The Train opens on
October 7, 2016.
