After the dreadful Annie remake, Rihanna is ready to
get back into the acting fold with a role in Luc Besson's upcoming adaptation
of Pierre
Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières' sci-fi
epic comic book series from the 1960s titled Valerian and Laureline: The Empire
of a Thousand Planets.
The filmmaker didn't reveal who the
singer turned actress would play but he did announce that she will not have a
minor role, quite the contrary, "she has a big part."
The
project will star Dane DeHaan as the titular character, Suicide Squad's Cara
Delevingne as his sharp-witted partner, Laureline, and they are part of a corp
of time traveling agents, whose mission is to maintain order in the 28th
century. Clive Owen is set to play Commander Arün Filitt.
VALERIAN is a saga
that every fan of Star Wars and Star Trek will identify with and love. Valerian
and his beautiful, sharp-witted and sharp-tongued partner, Laureline, live
adventures set against visually stunning backgrounds: complex architectural
inventions, futuristic machines, otherworldly landscapes, and odd-looking
aliens that are staples of artist Mezieres’s seemingly boundless visual
inventiveness. The stories are gripping and of epic proportion, sweeping along
in trilling, hyper-space speed.
