It
looks like Warner Bros. interest in Justice League Dark hasn't diminished even
if Guillermo del Toro is no longer in charge of bringing it into the big screen.
For a number of years the filmmaker was the driving force behind the project,
but earlier this summer he departed the project to focus on Pacific Rim 2,
which is no longer happening. Oh the irony.
According
to The Tracking Board the project has become a priority for Warner Bros., and they brought
in acclaimed producer Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network),
who is "making updates to the script and approaching directors," so
they can start shooting in 2016.
Details about the movie are unknown,
but the trade adds that they have heard that it "involves a series of
ancient tomes stolen by a madman hellbent on the destruction of humanity. When
he learns of this, occult detective John Constantine seeks out a group of
heroes that specialize in the mystic and arcane in order to save the world."
Back when del Toro was heading the
project he did confirmed that John Constantine would be in the movie, and
teased other characters such as Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan The
Demon.
Based on a New 52 launch title, Justice
League Dark was written by Peter Milligen and illustrated by Mike Janin.
