What makes an actor jump from smaller arthouse movies
to big-budget blockbusters? Well in Oscar Isaac's case it was nostalgia that
lured him in to both Star Wars and X-Men universes.
"For me, more than anything, it was about being
guilty of nostalgia. I was a big fan of Star Wars. I was
also a big fan of X-Men, particularly
the villain Apocalypse," Isaac revealed in a recent interview to Paste
Magazine. "So when those parts came around and there was interest for me
to do them, I was excited about it. I was excited to explore those worlds.
There is something more mythical … basically, you’re playing God. It’s
a challenge."
In the source material, En Sabah Nur, better known as Apocalypse
is one of the X-Men's most powerful villains, so it is easy to see where the
actor is coming from. Another reason could have to do with the God-like status
the character enjoyed in ancient Egypt, where he was revered and feared.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27, 2016.
