Focus Features has released the first trailer for Tom Hooper's (The King's
Speech, Les Misérables) upcoming drama, The Danish Girl. Based on David
Ebershoff's novel of the same name, The Danish Girl stars Academy Award winning
Eddie Redmayne as Einer Wegener the first man to undergo a sex reassignment
operation, and Alicia Vikander as her wife Gerda Wegener, who became a famous
artist for her paintings of Lili (Redmayne).
The trailer offers what I assume and hope is just the tip of the iceberg
for this important drama, which also stars Amber Heard, Matthias Schoenaerts,
Sebastian Koch, and Ben Whishaw.
The Danish Girl opens on November 27th.
The remarkable love
story inspired by the lives of artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener (portrayed
by Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne [“The Theory of Everything”] and Alicia
Vikander [“Ex Machina”]), directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper (“The
King’s Speech,” “Les Misérables”). Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as
they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.
