Five movies in and
director Matthew Vaughn has already established himself as one of Hollywood's
strongest voices, and for his next project Vaughn will direct the adaptation I
Am Pilgrim, a spy novel written and adapted by Terry Hayes.
Based on 2014’s
mammoth best seller, the story follows “Pilgrim,” code name for a man who
doesn’t exist. The adopted son of a wealthy American family, he once headed up
a secret espionage unit for U.S. intelligence. Now in anonymous retirement, he
is called upon to lend his expertise to an unusual investigation but ultimately
becomes caught in a terrifying race against time to save America from a cunning
terrorist.
Before writing I Am
Pilgrim, which is his first novel, Hayes was an accomplished screenwriter
having written scripts for Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond the
Thunderdome, Dead Calm, and Paycheck.
Vaughn is also
working on a Kingsman sequel, but with I Am Pilgrim scheduled to begin
production in 2016, odds are that the filmmaker will drop the sequel and pick a
director like he did for Kick-Ass 2.
