The first trailer for
Yorgos Lanthimos' (Dogtooth, Alps) bizarre love story has landed online. The
Lobster is set in a dystopian near future where single people are arrested and
transferred to a Hotel where they are forced to find a matching mate in 45 days
or get turned into an animal of their choosing and released into the wild
otherwise.
The Lobster sounds and
looks like it is right up my alley, and knowing that it was a Cannes sweetheart
just amps up the excitement. Plus it counts with incredible talent in front of
the camera including Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw,
John C. Reilly, Olivia Colman, Ariane Labed, Ashley Jensen, Jessica Barden,
Rosanna Hoult, Michael Smiley, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, and Angeliki Papoulia.
The Lobster opens in
the U.K. on October 16.
An unconventional
love story set in a dystopian near future where single people, according to the
rules of the Town, are arrested and transferred to the Hotel. There they are
obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed
into an animal of their choosing and released in the woods. A desperate man
escapes from the Hotel to the woods where the Loners live and there he falls in
love although it’s against the rules.
