After years stuck in development
hell, Zorro Reborn has found a new lease on life. The fresh and somewhat crazy
take on the iconic masked vigilante will send the character into a
post-apocalyptic future where he will do what he always has done ever since Johnston
McCulley first created him back in 1919; protect the defenseless from an authoritarian
and corrupt regime.
The project is a joint effort by
Lantica Media and Sobini Films, and the plan is to kick off production in March
of 2016 at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios.
"This has been a
fifteen year journey filled with ups and downs but it has remained my passion
project over the years," said Sobini CEO Mark Amin (Frida, Good Kill),
while Lantica
Media CEO Antonio Gennari adds "every generation has its own Zorro hero and we’re
proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation."
Despite sounding like
a train wreck waiting to happen, Zorro Reborn was previously set up at 20th
Century Fox and had such names like Bryan Singer (X-Men), Justin Marks (The
Jungle Book), Ricardo de Montreuil (Máncora), and Gary Whitta (Star Wars: Rogue
One) attached to it.
The search for a
director is currently underway.
