Acclaimed Swedish
actor Max von Sydow has joined the sixth season of HBO's hit fantasy series, Game
of Thrones, as a character we already know.
According to
Entertainment Weekly, Sydow will play the Three-Eyed Raven, whom the last time
we saw was being played by Struan Rodger at the end of season four, and was
tutoring Bran Stark in the mystical ways. Like the recently added
Ian McShane, Sydow's role will be short but poignant.
In his vast body of
work, Sydow is perhaps best known for his frequent collaborations with fellow
compatriot Ingmar Bergman. Both worked together on such films like The Seventh Seal, The Virgin Spring, The
Magician, or Winter Light, but the actor is also known for more mainstream projects
like The Exorcist, Three Days of Condor, Flash Gordon, Dune, or the 007 flick,
Never Say Never Again where he played the man with the cat, Ernst Stavro
Blofeld.
The sixth season of Game of Thrones
is expected to premiere sometime next Spring.
