Being
a big proponent of in camera magic, Tom Cruise is always pushing the intricacy
and danger level of practical effects and stunt work on the films he produces
and stars in, so it's not at all surprising to hear that the bonafide Hollywood
star would prefer to fly real jets if and when time comes to once again play
Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.
While
at the red carpet premiere of Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible -
Rogue Nation at the Vienna Opera House, Tom Cruise was asked by Extra if he
would reprise his role as Maverick in the sequel to Tony Scott's high-flying
1986 blockbuster, Top Gun.
"If I can figure
it out, if all of us can figure it out, it’d be fun to do, I’d like to fly
those jets again, but we got to do all the jets practical, no CGI on the jets…
I’m saying right now no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the
Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun."
Paramount
Pictures and Skydance Productions are currently developing the sequel with
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li scribe, Justin Marks penning the script,
and the plot will reportedly focus on drone technology and how it affects
modern pilots.
