Aside from the main Star Wars
storyline, which began with George Lucas' Episode I - The Phantom Menace and
that will be continued by J.J. Abrams with The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm is also
planning to give us a separate take on the galaxy far, far away with what they
are calling Anthology films.
Monsters and Godzilla director
Gareth Edwards is helming the first film in this new series of films, which
though still set in the Star Wars universe, will focus on different stories
with different characters, or will they?
According to Schmoes Know, the second film, which was going to be directed by Chronicle
and Fantastic Four director Josh Trank, will borough from westerns and bounty
hunter films, and will focus on how the rivalry between Han Solo, and Boba Fett
began. The film will delve into the "hive of scum and villainy"
already set in the Star Wars mythos. They also claim that it will be set in between
episodes III and IV, i.e. Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and that we can
expect appearances by Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Bossk.
The site goes on to say that
Jon Faverau, and Matthew Vaughn are eyeing the director's chair Trank left
behind.
Finally, they say their source
hinted that if Rogue One is a war film, and the second is a western, then the
third one will be much more "mythological and spiritual". They don't
say about who or what the film will be about, but this could mean that we could
see a Yoda origin story like it was previously rumored we would.
As always this is just a
rumor, but what do you think?
