After The Bourne
Ultimatum it seemed unlikely that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass would return
for another film about the amnesiac assassin, especially since the studio had
decided to move on with a spinoff starring Jeremy Renner. Well that wasn't the
case and last Fall it was announced that both director and actor were coming
back for another Bourne, and now another franchise mainstay is set to make her
return.
Per Deadline, Julia
Stiles will reprise her Nicky Parsons role in the expected 2016 release, which
is being written by Damon, Greengrass, and Christopher Rouse, who is making his
screenwriting debut after working as an editor in the franchise, and winning an
Oscar for it.
As for new additions
to the franchise, Alicia Vikander is still in talks for an unknown role, and
according to Variety Viggo Mortensen has been offered a role in the film as its
villain.
I'm keen to see where
this follow-up will go considering that the franchise ended perfectly with
Bourne publicly exposing Operation Blackbriar.
Bourne 5 opens on
July 29, 2016.
