Born Christopher Frank
Carandini Lee on 27, May 1922
in London, Lee like many of his generation volunteered in 1939 to fight for the
Finnish forces in World War II. The actor eventually joined the RAF (Royal Air
Force) as a pilot, but was forced to abandon his training due to medical
problems. However, his career at the RAF didn't end there and he joined RAF
Intelligence, where he quickly rose to Pilot Officer. Lee also served as an Intelligence
Officer during the North African Campaign, and the Allied Invasion of Italy.
Before retiring from service as a Flight Lieutenant, Lee joined the Central
Registry of War Criminals and Security Suspects, who were tasked with helping to
track down Nazi war criminals, and deliver them to the proper authorities.
With the end of the war, Lee returned home and started
having small roles in films. In 1957 with the Hammer film The Curse of Frankenstein,
Lee found the niche that would bring him fame. Lee continued working with
Hammer up until the 1970's.
He was Dracula, he was Scaramanga, he was Saruman, he was Count Dooku. Lee's highly prolific acting career span over 280 credits
including roles in 1941, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Lord of the Rings,
Hobbit, Star Wars Episodes II and III, and Sleepy Hollow to name a few clearly.
Lee creative mind wasn't a slave to acting alone, and
as a musician he put out four albums, three EPs, three singles, and nearly
twenty guest appearances on other projects.
To his family and friends our deepest condolences.
