Lionsgate has
released the first image of an oiled covered Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg's Deepwater
Horizon, which chronicles the true moments of the crew working aboard the BP oilrig
that on April 20, 2010 exploded and quickly became one of the biggest man-made
disasters in the world.
Wahlberg plays Mike
Williams, the chief electronics expert, and one of the last crewmembers to
escape the hellish environment.
JC Chandor (A Most
Violent Year) was initially attached to direct, but creative differences made
the writer/director leave.
Deepwater Horizon
opens on September 30, 2016 and also stars John Malkovich, Dylan O'Brien, Gine
Rodriguez, Kurt Russell, and Kate Hudson.
Based on the true
events that occurred on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, the
story chronicles the courage of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon and
the extreme moments of bravery and survival in the face of what would become
one of the biggest man-made disasters in world history.
