After
being stuck in development hell for a number of years, the adaptation of Stephen
King's The Dark Tower book series is finally heading to the big screen.
Sony
and MRC have struck a deal, where Sony will develop the feature film franchise
starting with the adaptation of King's first entry in the book series, The
Gunslinger, which will introduce the series main character Roland Deschains, while
MRC will develop a TV series to complement the films. Sony will use the script
penned by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner.
"I’m excited
that The Dark Tower is finally going to appear on the screen," King said
in a statement. "Those who have traveled with Roland and his friends in
their search for the Dark Tower are going to have their long-held hopes fully
realized. This is a brilliant and creative approach to my books."
According to Deadline
The Dark Tower franchise is as of now one of Sony's priorities.
