Roland
Emmerich has announced via Twitter that actors Brent Spiner and Joey King had
joined the cast of the upcoming Independence Day sequel, slated to open in June
of 2016.
Spiner's
announcement is slightly shocking since his character from the first film, Dr.
Okun died while performing an autopsy on one of the aliens, so how could he be
back? Maybe a flashback sequence? Then again he might not have died in the
first film.
King, who is best known for her work on The Dark Knight Rises (young Talia al Ghul),
Oz the Great and the Powerful (China Girl), and The Conjuring (Christine) just
finished working with Emmerich on his retelling of the Stonewall riots.
Both
actors join Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, and
Jessie Usher.
This just in... @JoeyKingActress and @BrentSpiner officially signed for #IndependenceDay - Welcome aboard!
