After picking up the rights to
Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon from the Hearst Corporation almost a year ago, and
having turned it into a script by J.D. Payne, and Patrick McKay, 20th Century
Fox is finally ready to start searching for a filmmaker to bring the sci-fi
adventure comic to the big screen.
According to The Hollywood
Reporter, X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass, and Kingsman: The Secret Service
director Matthew Vaughn is in talks to helm the film.
Flash Gordon follows the
titular hero, and his friends, Dale Arden, and scientist Hans Zasrkov in their fight
against Ming the Merciless, the ruler of the planet Mongo.
This won't be the first adaptation
of the property. Three serials and one cheesy 80's movie were adapted from it,
with the star of the last one, Sam Jones, saying he wouldn't mind being part of a new Flash Gordon film.
