After smashing his
way through Loki in The Avengers, fans have been clamoring for Marvel to give
the Green Goliath another shot at a standalone film. Unfortunately, things aren't
as simple as we thought they were, and Mark Ruffalo explains why.
As far as a Hulk movie,
a standalone Hulk movie, Marvel doesn’t really have the rights
to that yet. That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue. That’s a
big impediment to moving forward with that. Now I don’t think that’s insurmountable,
by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me.
It would be a shame if Marvel and Universal couldn't
ink a deal the same way Marvel did with Sony. However, since Universal isn't in
the same position Sony was at the time the deal was made, I think Marvel might
have less of a leverage on the negotiations. Having said that, Universal
doesn't have a superhero franchise, so it could be more beneficial than
detrimental for them to allow Marvel to start developing one solely centered on
the Hulk.
