Though the low-budget
sci-fi film Project Almanac failed to be the hit some believed it would be, its
director Dean Israelite seems to have caught the eye of studios and is now in
talks to helm the upcoming Power Ranger film for Lionsgate and Saban Films. Apparently
the director was offered a wide selection of tentople films to direct but
passed on all of them, saying that "the right one" would eventually
come his way.
According to The
Wrap, Israelite is a big fan of the Power Rangers franchise and is aiming
"to bring a fresh voice to the property".
Should Israelite join
the franchise, he will work from a script penned by X-Men: First Class, and
Thor scribes Ashley Miller, and Zack Stentz.
Roberto Orci is
attached as a producer and he has said that the film isn't a "leave it
behind reboot" as it will respect the TV series.
Power Rangers is
scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2016 so we should start hearing casting
news and the usual rumors sooner rather than later.
