Despite Will Smith's
absence, director Roland
Emmerich's sequel to the 1996 sci-fi blockbuster, Independence Day is gathering as much of the original cast as possible. In addition to Jeff Goldblum, and Bill Pullman, Emmerich has announced that Vivica A. Fox is set to
reprise her role as Jasmine Dubrow in the upcoming June 24, 2016 release.
So far, besides the original cast, the sequel
also counts with Liam Hemsworth, and Jessie Usher. Hemsworth is playing the
husband of Mae Whitman's Patricia Whitmore character, and son-in-law of Bill
Pullman's President Thomas J. Whitmore and Mary McDonnell's First Lady Marilyn
Whitmore, while Usher is Vivica A. Fox and Will Smith's characters son. As of now,
there has been no talk of Whitman's involvement in the franchise.
Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia) is said to be in talks, but so far no confirmation of her involvement in the franchise, or what role she might be up to.
