Yesterday The CW revealed that an animated show based
on the DC character Vixen is on the way for the network's online platform, Seed.
Fortunately, the announcements didn't end there as it was also revealed that
the animated show would share the same universe as The CW's live-action
superhero shows Arrow and The Flash.
Following these announcements Arrow showrunner, who is
in spearheading Vixen offered an interview where he revealed that the new show
will be a spin-off and will feature characters from both Arrow, and The Flash,
and that the series will be a six-part origin story for Vixen.
Guggenheim also teased that Oliver (Stephen Amell)
will find out that Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) kissed Barry (Grant Gustin)
in the upcoming animated show.
The showrunner also said that as Arrow is different
from The Flash, and vice-versa, Vixen will also be unique. She will have a
"big magic component", said Guggenheim as opposed to Arrow, which is
crime, and The Flash, which is science.
As for where the show will be set, Guggenheim reveals
that the former Justice League member will fight crime in Detroit as a "nod
to those Justice League (Detroit) stories".
Writers Keto Shimizu (Arrow, Being Human), and Brian
Ford Sullivan (Arrow) have been taped by Guggenheim to help pen the show.
The first thing that came to mind when I heard that a Vixen animated show
was on the way and that it would share the same universe as Arrow and The Flash
was that it would be a sort of backdoor pilot for a live-action show featuring
the character, however that does not seem to be the case, for now.
"We always say "never say never," and if the character
resonates with people, that would be wonderful. I would love to be in a
position where CW said to us, "Hey, we want a 'Vixen' live-action
show." That'd be wonderful. We'll have to sort of see how things play out.
But our goal really is to produce the highest-quality animated series. We want
people to come to this who don't normally watch an animated show. We really
want fans of "The Flash" and fans of "Arrow" to go to CW
Seed. We really tried to approach it the same way we approach a pilot."
At this time Guggenheim
says that Arrow, and The Flash actors are just finding out about the project,
but "all signs are good" for them to voice their animated
counterparts on the show.
What do you think?
