The X-Men cinematic universe is
about to be expanded with the addition of the merc with a mouth, Deadpool. In a
recent interview, Simon Kinberg revealed that the current plan for the X-Men
franchise includes Deadpool.
"There’s definitely a sort of overall
plan that we’ve all been talking about for the X-Men universe now, and Deadpool obviously fits into that," he confirmed. "So yeah, I guess I would say it's part of
certainly an overall timeline and thought process that goes into these films,
some of which is inspired by the comics and some which is inspired by seeing
what Marvel’s done with telling a larger tapestry and linking all those movies
together, even as they stand independently as well. The same kind of thought is
going to go into these X-Men movies at Fox."
After hearing this, it will be
interesting to see how a character the breaks the fourth wall and talks to the audience,
a character that his self-aware and knows it is in a comic book, in this case
probably the movie, will share the same cinematic universe that the X-Men.
At any rate, the possibility that
the Merc With A Mouth could make a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse is now all of a
sudden a possibly, considering that it is set to open after Deadpool's
standalone film.
Director Tim Miller is set to helm Deadpool solo film, but Ryan Reynolds is still
in, I'm assuming, negotiations.
Deadpool opens on February 2, 2016.
