Throughout
the years, comic book fans have witness the rise and fall of heroes and
villains depicted on the pages of their favorite comics. For the most part the deaths
are disposable, as the characters only remain dead for a few issues, and are
then brought back to life in some miraculous way.
Well
writer Charles Soule has other ideas for his Death of Wolverine mini-series.
Speaking at the Marvel panel at Fan Expo 2014, Soule says that he's very much
involved with the future of the character, and that there isn't an immediate
plan to bring him back.
"The idea is not to
bring him back," he explained. "This
isn't one of those stories where he's back in two weeks. The point is to tell
an awesome ending story for Wolverine. I'm not gonna say he will never be
brought back. I will say for sure that I'm very involved in all the Wolverine
related discussions at Marvel right now and the thing we have not talked about
at all is how to bring him back and I'm involved in discussions for stuff out
into 2016 at this point."
So for the next two years at least, Logan will
be six-feet under, but what about the Weapon X Project coming this Fall? Well
Soule has the answer, and he says that the upcoming book will explore the
Marvel Universe without Wolverine, and it will feature "a guy who is kind of intertwined with a huge bad guy from Wolverine's
history. I can't talk about any details, but when we revisit this next year and
you know what all these things are I hope you'll be as excited about it as I
am," before adding, "There are big plans to do everything
except bring him back."
Charles
Soule, and Steve McNiven's Death of Wolverine drops this coming Wednesday.
