Regardless
of how much positive buzz the show has gotten, many comic book fans are still on
the fence about a show set in a Gotham without Batman and focused on the young
Detective Gordon, and the villains and soon to be villains that inhabit it.
Speaking
to Female First, the show creator Bruno Heller said that they aren't planning
to hold back when it comes to introducing familiar faces.
"We haven't excluded anyone from the mix
potentially, but generally what we're looking at is characters where there is
some drama or a story behind how they got to be the way they are."
Heller reiterates that we won't be seeing any masked heroes or villains, nor will they have superpowers.

"We're looking for characters who live in the
real world of Gotham as opposed to the even more super real world of Metropolis
if you like. It's not about super powers, it's about super will, if you like.
We veer towards those characters who are interesting as people, rather than
interesting for their particular power or their particular gimmick or their
costume."
As a case in point, Heller talks
about one specific character, although he ends up saying that maybe.
"There are certainly characters
that would be very difficult to put on the screen. That crocodile guy [Killer
Croc] is a tough one - although we may go there..."
Gotham premieres on September 22nd.
