MTV News recently caught up with Alex
Kurtzman and asked him a few quick questions about The Amazing Spider-Man
franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and the Venom spin-off.
Kurtzman starts the procedure by letting us know that
he is in some sort of delusional bubble because he says that Sony has a head
start on Marvel's Cinematic Universe, because of the Spider-Man franchise's
history.
"You know, Spider-Man has the
benefit of having so many more movies than even some of the movies that have
2′s and 3′s in front of them from Marvel."
Sorry to state the obvious, but there are five
Spider-Man movies, and the first three belong to a different franchise, therefore
no, The Amazing Spider-Man has zero benefits, and no leg up on Marvel.
Kurtzman also gives some pointers for The Amazing
Spider-Man 3, which had its release date re-scheduled for 2018.
"I think as long as it keeps
staying true to character, and true to who Peter is, and putting him in
interesting and complicated situations, it’ll survive. Because it’s so beloved
– everybody loves Spider-Man."
The writer/director then goes on to
talk about the long awaited Venom spin-off, and says that "the idea is
that you can do things with Venom that you can’t do with Spider-Man. Venom is
the representation of every line that will get crossed. He’s a much darker
character."
