Like it or not, director Marc Webb's The Amazing
Spider-Man 2 is a complete and utter mess. The director had three villains in
the film, and somehow managed to make them all empty inside, I mean why did any
of them did what they did?
What I want to say is that Marc Webb didn't delve enough
into the villains stories, which were basic and ill conceived to say the least.
Another problem I had with the film was the jumpy editing,
which allied with the poor story made things worse. It was five minutes of
Harry here, five minutes of Electro there, ending up with a useless scene with
Rhino.
But, maybe Webb is not the only culprit, I mean the
film did had writers, and it also had a CEO. It looks like Sony CEO, Kaz Hirai
is very hands on with the studio's properties and isn't shy of making creative
decisions when it comes to movies or tv shows.
"I
went to see the final edits for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 before it came out;
[Sony Entertainment CEO] Michael [Lynton] and [SPE co-chairman] Amy [Pascal]
just wanted to get my thoughts on a few things," Hirai explained.
"I
can't edit a film -- I just know if this scene and that scene don't come
together quite right. And so maybe we want to explain why this plane is out of
control or blind in the air. I know if something is confusing," the
company's CEO added.
Hirai
said his hands-on approach can include reading a script and telling
Lynton "that story ending is not so good" or suggesting
"this part is a little controversial. Do you want to change this or
that?"
