If you saw the trailers for Guardians
of the Galaxy, you probably glimpsed a giant head floating around space. The
head, or Knowhere as it's called, is the severed head of an unknown Celestial,
who are creatures of immense cosmic power, clad in armor, and as you can guess
by the size of the head, tall, standing about 2000 feet.
In a recent interview, director James
Gunn confirmed that there are at least two references to Celestials in the
movie.
"We have a couple of Celestials who we refer to
in the film. They’re part of the overall structure of the cosmic universe.
They’re part of the fun of what the movie is."
The director also revealed that there
are bigger things in Guardians of the Galaxy than Thanos.
"Our
characters, to some degree, have super powers, but at the same time they’re
just ordinary citizens of the galaxy," he
said. "They just
happen to be renegades - they’re basically bikers. They’re just these ordinary
citizens who get caught up in this thing - because they want money in the
beginning - that has completely cosmic overtones. There are characters like
Thanos involved, and then there are characters bigger than that. Suddenly these
mortals are playing in the fields of gods. I always find that a very interesting
thing."
Opening on July 31st in the UK, and
on August 1st in the US, Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt,
Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond,
Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Djimon Honsou, Gregg Henry, Glenn Close, John C.
Reilly, Peter Serafinowicz, and Laura Haddock.
