It has been awhile since director
Steven Spielberg sat behind the camera, in fact the last time he did so was in
2012 with Lincoln, which earned him best picture and best director nominations
at the Oscars, but since then nothing.
Following Lincoln Spielberg was
set to helm the adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s sci-fi novel Robopocalypse,
and development went so far as casting Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway in the
leads but unfortunately or fortunately the director wasn’t happy with the
script and put the project on hold “indefinitely”. Then the director was
planning on American Sniper, which told the story of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who
had the highest number of sniper kills ever for an American and then unfortunately
was killed by friendly fire on a Texas firing range. Bradley Cooper is still
set as producer and lead but Spielberg pulled out.
So now what?! Well according to
Deadline the director is interested in maybe doing a remake of West Side Story.
For those that don’t know, West Side Story was a Broadway musical, which was first
adapted in 1961 by Robert Wise, and was so successful that won ten Academy
Awards, including Best Picture and Director. The story is similar to that of
Shakespeare Romeo & Juliet as it tells the story of two members from two
rival New York City gangs, the Jets and the Sharks.
At this time it seems that the
director is only looking at instead of being in talks for.
